RULES APPLIED TO STUDENTS DURING SURGERY CORE

Conducting the classes

  1. Surgery core classes are held at departments of surgery and in a medical simulation center in accordance with the schedule of classes set by Dean’s Office and available on the Dean's Office website and at the Dean’s Office.
  2. Starting and ending hours of classes are specified in the schedule of classes available on the website of the Dean's office and of the departments in which the classes are held, and in these institutions.
  3. Student is obliged to arrive for classes on time. Entering classes 15 minutes late can be treated as an absence with the necessity to make them up.
  4. Student is obliged to have a student ID (or other Polish or English language document with photo confirming his/her identity) to present it at the request of teachers.
  5. Student has to wear clean and ironed doctor’s two-pieces suit (preferred) or white coat and changing shoes. Student is not allowed to wear the same dress and shoes inside and outside the hospital. Failure to have the required clothes may result in not being allowed to participate in the classes with the necessity to make them up.
  6. The department conducting labs provides students with rubber gloves, disinfectants, as well as clothes, shoes, caps and masks necessary to enter the operating theatre.
  7. In case of absence student has to make up class(es) on day(s) appointed by coordinator at the given department upon the approval of the department head.
  8. Student is obligated to treat patients, teachers, hospital staff and other students with respect.
  9. Students are obliged to maintain medical secrecy and protect personal data in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulations.
  10. Students are not allowed to use mobile phones, cameras or other electronic devices during classes unless the teacher gives his consent.
  11. Student entering the operating theatre is bound to wear two-pieces doctor’s suit. If student hasn’t got one’s own suit, it can be borrowed in the secretary office.

 

Implementation of the curriculum

  1. Student is obliged to be prepared for classes according to the “Topics of classes” provided by given department. Failure to prepare for classes, as noted by the teacher, may result in the lack of credit on a given day and the necessity to make up for it.
  2. Topics of labs (with the schedule for each day) are available on the website of the department where the classes are held and on the department's information board.
  3. The subject of classes taking place on a given day may be modified by the teacher depending on cases of currently hospitalized patients suffering from diseases significant from the point of view of the overall Surgery Core curriculum.

 

Classes credit and final exam

  1. Each week of classes ends with a credit for the topics assigned to a given course. If in a given department classes are scheduled for more than 1 week, the credit may be taken at the end of the last week of classes.
  2. The date and form of taking the credit is determined by the head of the department. The credit may be also granted based on continuous evaluation of the student by the teacher throughout the entire duration of the training at the given department. The information about obtaining  the credit should be announced at the end of the class week.
  3. Surgery Core rotation ends with the final exam which consists of a practical part and test part.
  4. Successful outcome of practical exam determines student’s attempt to final test exam.
  5. Only students who have successfully passed all the weeks during the Surgery Core rotation (received all credits) are admitted to the final exam.Failure to pass individual weeks results  in obtaining a failing grade for a given final exam date.
  6. Dates and locations of the practical exam and test exam are set at least 4 weeks before the end of the course.
  7. The topics covered by the examination are included in the surgery course description card available on the websites of the Dean's office and the departments conducting classes, as well as in mentioned institutions.
  8. Exam grades are determined as specified in § 38 of the Study Regulations and are disclosed to students up to 5 working days from the date of the exam through Virtual Dean's Office.
  9. Students are not allowed to use mobile phones, cameras or other electronic devices during any part of exam.

 

Other issues

  1. Any questions regarding the course and the method of conducting the classes should be addressed to the teacher conducting the classes or to the person responsible for conducting  the classes during their duration in a given department.

  3. Book of Practical Skills can be signed by teachers only during classes.
  4. Hospitals are not responsible for any student belongings left in the cloakroom.
