General Principles of the education course English language program 

Department of General Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Angiology and Phlebology

 

 

&1 Way of the education performance

1.The classes are organized in the form of the seminars and exercises in the stationary form as well as in the form of the web meetings. The pandemic regulations in Poland and at the Universtity have to be applied and respected. If possible, both, exercises and seminars will be performed in the stationary form in the Department.

  1. The topics of the classes and seminars are available on the web page of the department (chirurgianaczyn.sum.edu.pl), in the Department secretary as well as in the information point in the department (6th flor, conference room of the Department)

 

&2 Participation in the classes /seminars and exercises/

1.The Student participation in the classes should be performed taking into account internal regulations of the Hospital as well as Department

  1. The Students will be informed about the hours of the start of the classes as well as the place of the meeting with the physician responsible for the classes performance
  2. The hours and topics of the classes (exercises and seminars) are available of the web page of the department and in the department secretary as well as in the information desk in the department
  3. The Students should respect basic ethical rules in relationship to the patients as well as medical staff of the hospital
  4. The patient privacy should be respected
  5. The Students should be prepared to the classes according to the topics and material scheduled in the program of the classes (program of the course available on the web page)
  6. The Students should be prepared to the classes having their own stethoscope, hospital scrubs and shoes /the disinfection liquids, masks and gloves (if required) will be provided by the hospital
  7. The students is obligate to have any ID document and to show it if requested by the hospital staff and security
  8. The doctor -patient confidentiality rules should be respected by the Student and all the information obtained in the hospital should be used for educative purpose only.
  9. The participation in the classes is confirmed by the physician having the classes with the group on the base of the student presence, activity, and knowledge (in the cases of the lack of the student activity as well as absence during the classes, the part or the whole course has to be repeated before obtaining the confirmation)

 

&3 Absence of the Student - the lack of the presence during the classes

1.To obtain the confirmation of the course participation, the Student should be present all days which were scheduled in the program (for both, seminars and exercises) – no absence allowed to get the positive confirmation of the course.

2.In the case of the absence, the Student should contact the secretary of the Department or contact directly the physician responsible for the class performance, to fix the possibility to perform the classes with another group or individually ( due to the significant number of the student programs in the Department, it has to be confirmed and scheduled with the person coordinating the education classes in the Department).

&4 Final exam

  1. The participation in the exam concerns all the Students which obtained the positive confirmations of the participation in the classes scheduled in all the departments mentioned in the program of the course.
  2. The term of the exam is scheduled by the Head of the group with the secretary of the Department and Person responsible for the exam organization (please contact the secretary of the department)
  3. The exam contains practical and theoretical part based on the program of the course
  4. The theoretical part of the exam can be organized as the oral exam or test
  5. The Students who did not pass the exam are informed about the second term of the exam.

 

&5 Other issues

 

  1. All questions and problems related to the classes and program of the education in the Department should be discussed with the physicians responsible for the course or with the head of the department
  2. On the first day of the course, all the Students will receive information concerning the safety rules and requirements related to the classes as well as hospital safety conditions

Course content

 

Seminars                                                                            – 7 hours

  1. Acute leg ischemia
  2. Chronic leg ischemia
  3. Venous thromboembolism (Deep vein thrombosis, Pulmonary artery embolism) – prophylaxis and treatment
  4. Chronic venous disease
  5. Aortic aneurysm and dissection
  6. Carotid and subclavian artery pathology
  7. Medical and invasive treatment in vascular patients

 

 

Exercises                                                                            - 14 hours (2x7 hours)

  • Physical examination and anamnesis in vascular patients
  • Diagnostics in vascular patients (laboratory, ultrasound, CT, MR, angiography)
  • Vascular patient cases presentations and discussions
  • First aid in the trauma related bleeding
  • Wound care (acute and chronic wounds)
  • Multiorgan trauma patient – first aid and hospital management
  • Surgical and vascular patient in emergency department
  • How to obtain vascular access?
  • Basics of the ultrasound and Doppler diagnostics
  • Abscess, phlegmona, empyema and soft tissue infection management
  • Basic diagnostics and therapeutic skills required in the surgical patients eg.: naso-gastric tube placement, Folley catheter placement, peritonel cavity lavage puncture, drainage of the thorax

 

Exercises will be performed in the ward of the Department, in operating rooms, in the angiography lab and in ultrasound diagnostic lab of the Department
